KEYNOTE LECTURE LANE HOPE
Keynote Lecture of the Latin American Network in Economic HistOry and Political Economy, LANE HOPE
Monday, June 22, 2020 (3.15pm Eastern Time) (2:15pm Bogotá, Colombia)
James A. Robinson presents "The Political Economy of Latin America: New Visions" (work with José Luis Falconi).
Latin American under-development has been fundamentally determined by a political economy syndrome of clientelism and state weakness which inhibits the provision of basic public goods. What are the origins of this equilibrium, reasons for its persistence, and possible ways out?
James Robinson is the Reverend Dr. Richard L. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies and University Professor at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago and Institute Director of The Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution of Global Conflicts.
