TREES (Teaching and Researching Equitable Economics from the South), an initiative led by the Center for Studies on Economic Development (CEDE) at the Universidad de los Andes and funded by the Ford Foundation, is excited to announce the call for research proposals aimed at comprehending the multiple dimensions of inequality across Latin America and the Caribbean.
We are seeking innovative and ambitious research projects led by Principal Investigators based in Latin America and the Caribbean, addressing various aspects of inequality. The selected projects will receive support of up to COP 60,000,000 each.
Research areas encompass a wide spectrum of themes, including but not limited to social segregation, gender diversity, environmental justice, labor market inequalities, fiscal issues, and teaching inequality across different domains of knowledge. We welcome empirical studies, contributions to measurement, conceptualization, and historical analyses related to inequality.
Eligibility for this grant requires the Principal Investigator to be affiliated with a non-profit organization or institution established in any State of Latin America or the Caribbean, willing to administer the grant if awarded. Please note that each lead PI may submit multiple Letters of Inquiry but can only be awarded one grant.
Application Process Overview:
Phase 1: Letter of Inquiry (Deadline: January 21, 2024)
- Fill out the Letter of Inquiry form expressing interest in the TREES Research Grant Fund.
- Please direct any questions via email to the specified address no later than January 11, 2024: trees@uniandes.edu.co.
Phase 2: Full Proposals
- Invitations to submit full proposals will be sent by February 2, 2024.
- Full proposal submissions (by invitation only) should be received no later than March 1, 2024.
- Confirmation of submission receipt will be sent within a week of submission.

- All documentation and communications regarding this call will be in English to be inclusive of Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Grants are awarded to host institutions under the commitment to provide suitable conditions for the Principal Investigator and their team.
- Intellectual property remains with the PIs, while dissemination rights are granted to Uniandes and the Ford Foundation.
- Any changes to the proposal or team must be submitted for approval to trees@uniandes.edu.co.
