    The Center for Studies on Economic Development (CEDE) is one of the first and main centers for economic and social research and consulting in the country. It is recognized for the quality and innovation of its research, for having a team of highly qualified researchers and academics and for its impact on issues regarding public policy in Colombia.

The main research areas at CEDE are:

CEDE has produced extensive research in the areas of competition, growth and economic development, environment, demography, agricultural economics, environmental economics, economics of education, economics of health, political and institutional economics, social economic evaluation of projects, economic history, macroeconomics and the financial sector, monetary and financial history, behavioral and experimental economics, industrial organization and regulation, fiscal policy, violence, security and conflict.

Among the national and international institutions that provide funding for research at CEDE are Banco de la República, Ministries (Finance, Education and Health), the National Planning Department, the Mayor's Office of Bogotá and Colciencias. At the international level, we highlight funders such as Environment for Development (EfD), Open Society Foundation, Hilton Foundation, la Fundación Ford Foundation, the University of Chicago, International Development Research Center (IDRC) Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) of England, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) of the US, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Ford Foundation, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank.

CEDE is the first private research center created in Colombia. Founded in 1958 it now has nearly 40 full-time professors and manages dozens of projects each year including diverse areas of study. Multiple international donors have supported CEDE's work thorugh partnership and research grants, including the Open Society, the Latin-American Center for Rural Development (RIMISP), the Development Bank for Latin America (CAF), the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank, the Global Development Network (GDN), United Nations, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the National Bureau of Economic Research of the U.S. (NBER), the Australian Research Council (ARC), the American National Science Foundation (NSF) and the British Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), among others. CEDE also works closely with the Colombian public sector by developing and evaluating public policies. Public institutions such as the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Protection, Department of National Planning, Minciencias, Colombian Institute of Childhood well-being, ICETEX and different territorial entities- including Bogota´s mayor´s office- are among the institutions that CEDE has worked with.

CEDE's research is disseminated through a number of publications, including its working papers series, numerous academic papers and books, policy briefs, blogs, opinion pieces, and others. CEDE also hosts events that disseminate scientific knowledge and engage in the most pressing economic issues. Perhaps one of its main contributions, CEDE also plays a fundamental role in training the next generation of academic economists, by engaging students (at the undergraduate, Masters, and PhD levels) in its research projects.
