Gasto Público Y Crecimiento Económico: Evidencia Para El Caso Argentino

Abstract

Este documento se concentra en el crecimiento del gasto público, definido aquí como la suma entre consumo público e inversión pública, como un determinante importante de la caída en la tasa de crecimiento del PIB argentino durante el período 1901 - 2000. Partiendo de un ejercicio de contabilidad del crecimiento, diversas herramientas econométricas permiten concluir que el crecimiento del consumo público ha sido ineficiente en términos de crecimiento económico, debido a que contribuye a incrementar la cantidad de trabajo en la economía, un factor cuyo aporte al crecimiento es decreciente en el período estudiado. La conclusión en términos de inversión pública es inversa, debido a la relación de este agregado con el stock de capital en la economía, un factor cuyo aporte al crecimiento ha sido creciente.
