Master’s program in Economics: Economics for Graduates
The basic objective of Economics for Graduates (PEG) is to offer high-level formation in economic theory, in relation to the specific problems of developing economies, and the challenges of frontier economic knowledge, with the intention of forming professionals able to perform independent research.
Study Plan
A leveling cycle and an advanced cycle compose the Economics Program for Graduate Students, PEG. The PEG can be taken with a full or partial time dedication. The class schedule is diurnal from Monday to Friday.
Special requisites
The selected participants of the master will present a diagnostic test to determine the English level. This test will classify the students into two groups: those exempted because they meet the required profile, and those who need to take additional English reading workshops.
Duration and schedules
The student chooses the number of subjects that he/she wishes to take each academic period. If the student decides to dedicate full time to the Master, the advanced cycle has a yearlong duration. The leveling cycle is additional. Classes are offered on a daily schedule.
Leveling Cycle
The purpose of this cycle it homogenize the theoretic and instrumental knowledge in economics that possess the candidates, with the aim of seeking that all the participants can face appropriately the subjects of the advanced cycle. The composition and duration of this cycle depends on the previous background of the candidate and will be decreed in accordance with the program’s coordination. Some courses in this cycle are regular courses of the undergraduate program.
Additionally, this cycle also allows students to be acquainted with state of the investigation in the different work areas of the Economy, and interact with the professors and investigators that work in these subjects. This has the purpose of facilitating the identification of their areas of interest and defining the topics that will occupy their attention in the advanced cycle.

Advanced cycle
The advanced cycle constitutes rigorously the studies at graduate level in economics. It is composed by eight theoretical courses and two thesis courses, during which the student should develop a publishable article as the final accomplishment to opt for a Master in Economics.
In this cycle, the student must choose a concentration area, composed by two sequential courses. The thematic of these courses varies permanently depending on the interest of the student. The courses of the second academic period are part of the International Summer School.
This cycle has a yearlong duration, divided in to three academic periods of 15, 8, and 15 weeks respectively.

When finalizing the totality of the courses of the advanced cycle, the student will be able to defend his/her publishable article, previous to the fulfillment of the academic requisites demanded by the program. In all the courses, including those of the leveling and advanced cycle, there will be a significant use of mathematical instruments.
Degree
The Economics program for Graduate students, PEG, presents the student with the degree of Master in Economics.
